About the Course
Target Audience
This course is aimed at electrical tradespersons, supervisors or engineers whose job function
involves the installation and maintenance of electrical/instrumentation equipment in potentially
hazardous areas.

Course Length
Approximately 2 – 2.5 hours. The course is self-paced and participants are able to log on and
off as many times as they wish until all tasks are completed.
Course Content
This course provides a basic understanding for electrically qualified personnel of what a
hazardous area is and equipment used. Topics covered include:
- Competency & Legislation
- History
- Explosion Protection principles (basics)
- Basic fire triangle
- Basic types of protection Ex d, e, i, n & mixed
- Types of hazardous areas
- Ignition, Combustion & Propagation
- Explosive limits of gas & vapours
- Properties of combustible substances
- Gas vs vapours
- Toxic nature of gases & vapours
Outcome
A Certificate of Completion will be issued on course completion.
